Traveling the Road to Spiritual Wellness

Many of us have made attempts to achieve spiritual wellness. The effort and introspection required can make spiritual wellness feel difficult to achieve. But there are steps you can take along the road to spiritual wellness, and while you may encounter challenges along the way, spiritual wellness is achievable.

Try these approaches for building a foundation of spiritual wellness. You will have a greater impact by working with them together instead of one by one.

Try these interconnected steps to building spiritual wellness:

Meditation. Spend time alone for meditation. Meditation is the perfect medium for connecting to your inner self. It is important to maintain that connection so you remain in tune with your spiritual beliefs. We often get caught up in focusing on the past, on our painful moments and disappointments, and this can affect our inner peace. Likewise, focusing on the uncertainty of the future and the “what ifs” of life can also disrupt our inner peace. Meditation is a great way to help focus on the present.

Make value-guided decisions. By living in tune with your values, you are being true to yourself, and by being true to yourself, you allow your spiritual life to flourish.  Reflect on your spiritual values and write them down.  How do these spiritual values inform how you can be available to others? Make your spiritual values the foundation for your decisions.

Reflect with and connect to the underlying meaning of situations. As cliché as it sounds, the adage “everything happens for a reason” is an accurate explanation for life. How your approach the situation and what you do with the information that arises matters. While you may not like a situation or even understand it, instead of reacting to the situation, take the time to reflect and connect with the deeper meaning.  It is important to realize that life is filled with challenges no matter who we are or our station in life.

Be accepting of others’ viewpoints. The inhabitants of the world are as they are meant to be. True spirituality is built on the willingness to accept that each of us, no matter where we are in the world or how we approach the world. Every person is valuable, and our individual views have value. Practicing tolerance toward others can open you up spiritually by showing you different possibilities as you consider the meaning of life. This is an exercise in developing a deeper understanding (as an alternative to forcing your beliefs on others).

Attend a Reflection Retreat. Take time to step back from daily life rituals, and try spiritually enriching events with a supportive and nurturing community of people investing in their spiritual wellness.

The road to spiritual wellness is a life-long journey, but it is quite fulfilling! By putting one foot in front of the other and taking steps along the road to spiritual wellness, you can develop a deeper level of peace. Experience the journey and see what it feels like to truly accept yourself, by staying connected with your inner self.

Stay connected with your inner self. Allow that connection to dictate your thoughts, words, and actions. Doing so will keep you on the road to spiritual wellness.
