The Value of Morning Rituals

Have you considered that how you start your morning can impact the rest of your day?  What do the first 30 to 90 minutes of your morning look like? Your morning routine can set the tone for your whole day, helping you feel more productive, empowered, and even accomplished.

Adding certain rituals to your morning routine – and eliminating others – can start a domino effect of achievement, helping you shift to being proactive about achieving your goals. Consider how you can create a morning routine that enhances your day.

Integrating morning rituals into your routine:

  • Think about who you want to be and how your morning routine can support you. What is the transformation you want as a result of your routine? Is the transformation related to a career? Happiness? Change? What can you add to your routine that will help you start your day proactively?

  • Start with easy steps. Think about simple things you can do to help start off your day on a positive note.

  • Relax and enjoy the process – and be compassionate with yourself. If you are too busy to do each part of your ritual each day, be compassionate with yourself. Practice self-forgiveness if life gets too busy for you to complete your morning routine.

Try adding some of these activities to your morning ritual:

  • Make your bed. One of the things you can do to create a domino effect of achievement during your day is to make your bed. It’s an easy win that starts your day with an accomplishment.

If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.

  • Drink a glass of water. During the night about bodies go hours without hydration! Wake up your senses and rehydrate with a glass of water.

  • Journal. Journaling helps you get your thoughts onto paper and set goals. In your journal entries, you can reflect on the past, appreciate, the present, and reflect on your future. How did yesterday feel for you? What are your intentions for the day? What are you grateful for?

  • Move. Add movement to your morning routine. Going for a walk or to the gym can help wake you up, give you energy, and helps release mood-boosting endorphins!

Remember to be kind to yourself if you can’t complete your morning routine each day. And remember to make your morning routine fun!  Enjoy the process of reflecting, energizing, and reflecting. It’s a great gift to give yourself.
